Derma-Rolling: Does It Work?
Jul 24 , 2021
What is derma-rolling and does it work?

Also known as micro needle roller, it is a procedure that is only just being discovered which helps with collagen production. Collagen, as we know, is the most abundant and main building protein in our body as it is present in our muscles and skin. Face needle roller can help with wrinkles, abnormally sized pores, irregularities, dark spots, acne scars, and much more.

The procedure involves puncturing the skin with tiny stainless steel needles to increase collagen production in certain spots to fix any issues such as scars or irregularities. You can have this procedure done by a professional as well where they will likely numb the area before puncturing the skin to minimize any pain that you might experience. Getting this procedure done by a professional will likely involve multiple sessions to allow sufficient time for the damaged skin to heal.

If visiting a doctor regularly seems inconvenient to you then you might want to try out the DIY method. With a derma-roller, you roll it on your skin to cause miniature punctures that are at your comfort level. While using a roller at home can show a noticeable effect over regular use, you first need to know how to use it so it can help your skin rather than damage it.

What are some benefits?

You might be saying at this point that there’s no way you will get this procedure done. Purposefully causing my skin harm? Just to increase collagen production? There are other ways to do that!

Well, you’re not wrong when you say that there are other ways to increase collagen production. However, derma-rolling is known to be one of the most effective ways. Topical products might start to show results after 4-6 months, while derma-rolling might start to show results after 1-2 months. Collagen production will make your skin look healthier and younger. The punctures will also help break down any scar tissue and the collagen will help rebuild using fresh skin cells.

Derma-rolling can also help reduce hair fall and thicken hair. Because of the miniature punctures in your skin, the collagen helps repair the skin as we know. But as men grow older, they get DHT buildup in their hair follicles which is the main cause of baldness. Derma-rolling also promotes blood flow which washes away DHT resulting in thicker and fuller hair.

Are there drawbacks?
You can experience some inflammation or redness during the initial days of derma-rolling, but this is generally just the skin during its recovery phase. Different types of skin might experience dryness, tightness, or sensitivity in the initial days. Derma-rolling is not recommended for people who are prone to skin diseases or have a problem healing from wounds.
